Picture File barton_1-t.jpg Tampa's Buzz Barton (outside) in his carbureted BB Ford powered super races with fellow Tampa pilot Bill Roynon (injected Dodge wedge) at Palm Beach Speedway, West Palm Beach, Fla. Picture File carter_1-t.jpg A couple of South Florida favorites from about 1962 at Palm Beach Speedway. On the inside the famed Moss & Norton Black Bandit #71 driven by Rod Perry. Featured a Crosley body and a BB carbureted Ford. Along side is the Bill Belford owned purple #119 driven by Rags Carter. Body was much modified '36-37 Chevy Coupe while power came from 389 Pontiac. Picture File gorham_1-t.jpg Ralph Stark owned several different cars numbered 1-X and this one plied the South Florida ovals in the early 60s. A metallic red Crosley body had 348/409 carbureted Chevy and several drivers took turns at the controls. Shown here is journeyman Al Gorham of Miami. Picture File hamke_1-t.jpg Here is a shot of a Miami area super modified from 1966. It was built by Bob Hamke (standing) and driven by his son Bob, Jr (later known as Robert) and Rod Perry. Track is Hollywood Speedway in Hollywood, Fla, a slightly banked quarter-mile which was closed in mid-1969 shortly after the death of driver Ronnie Grimm.
Picture File kuhn88_1-t.jpg From a NESMRA show at Miami-Hollywood Speedway park in 1972 showing local driver Al Kuhn's #88 battling with Don McLaren (5) and another local, R.H. Ellis. The Kuhn car still exists in South Carolina but the owner won't sell the weather-worn racer. Picture File luscom_1-t.jpg Orlando's Bob Luscomb drove this very sharp super at various Florida ovals in the late 60s. He may also have built the car as he was a prolific sprint car builder in later years. Picture File Gibson_0_roadster-t.jpg Here's a shot of Todd Gibson's well known Flintstone Flyer 0 at Golden Gate Speedway, Tampa, Fla in 1971.They had a 300 lapper planned that evolved into three 100 lappers on the same afternoon.
