Oh boy... Net-Link, oops, Voyager, oops, CoreComm, moved the site recently so please watch out for anything wrong and let me know. I also rebuilt all the volumes in the photo archives, I hope this doesn't mess up the search engines too bad!

We've been updating descriptions on the Photo Archive volumes based on emails from users, so you may want to look through them again. I'm still working on getting Phil Bialis' Dick Carter/Jimmy Nelson Memorial Marc Times scan. Saving money to get the scans done. I have Pat York's album 80% scanned. I've got a feature coming on Steve Bonesteel and his restoration of what looks to be the Walt-Flynn roadster. Is it the real one or is the real one out on Long Island? Steve's story is interesting/controversial/satisfying, can't wait to get it posted.
In case you thought you were the only one interested in old supermodifieds, I thought I might pass along some recent website stats: RetroRockets is now averaging 4000 hits per day, with April, May and June showing over 1.2 million hits for the month. Tuesday is the most popular day, Sunday second. 8 pm to 9 pm is the most popular hour. The Phil Ghysels photo albums have been the most popular recently, followed by the recent Harry Jones and Jim Shampine feature pages and fourth...the Nolan Johncock feature! Northern Light, Google, and Yahoo appear to be sending the most new visitors, in that order. Most users are in the .com domain, the next 10 are .net, .ca(Canada), .us(United States), .de(Germany), .org, .edu(USA educational), .mil(USA military), .au(Australia), .pl(Poland) and .it(Italy). Wild!
Jim Liccardi writes in: "In the process of checking out the new feature on Harry Jones, I discovered something that I never knew, and want to ask you about it. On Pg.8 of the feature, third pic down, (file s32) is a group of cars spinning, dead center is the white car Bingo 5, which looks very much like the Bingo 151 that Sam Sessions drove at Oswego. Is it the same car? Also I can tell by the length of the roll cage that it is not the same car of Nelson Wards Bingo 5. When Ward raced at Oswego, I think Cannonball Gresley, who was Jim Gresley's grandfather, owned the car. And I know that Pete Webster owned Session's car. This is the first time that I have actually seen the Sessions/ Webster car run as Bingo 5. I am almost sure I can remember both cars running the Classic in 62 & 63, and according to the stats for both races, in 62 Ward ran the Bingo 5, and Sessions the Bingo 151. In 63, on Aug. 23rd Nelson was killed at Shangri-La Speedway in Owego, NY, so Johnny Logan was in the Bingo 5 carfor the Classic, while again Sammy was in the Bingo 151. I have seen it mentioned in your site, but I am ashamed to say that I thought who ever captioned the picture was mixed up with the 2 cars. Can you give me more of a history or time frame between the two cars. this picture really amazed me."

If you have any more info, please let me or Jim know.
Bob Brown is doing a replica of the Harv Lennox Tammy Ten writes in: " The Tammy 10 will be completed this summer and will be appearing at vintage race programs. The nailhead is topped with 6 two barrels and will be mated to an early Ford toploader tranny, using a hand clutch set up. Mr. Lennox has been most helpful in providing direction and even donated some his original spare parts. There is going to be a TAMMY 10 Motorsport Inc., website and will be offering merchandise to go to the Diabetes Canada and Heart and Stroke Foundation."

Keep tabs on his progress through our feature page, we will post any pics we receive there.
Have you seen the "New Zealand Stock Car Crazy" site referenced off a posting in the RetroRockets discussion board? Now this is nutso, full contact modified racing! Nerf bars all around! I gotta go see this sometime.
Added a couple pics of Joey Santos in a supermodifed into volumes 42 and 43 of the Photo Archives.
There's a new feature page on ASA at Oswego.
The Lone Merc There's a new feature on Harry Jones, ("The Lone Merc" - white #24) contributed by his family. Check it out.

Jim Liccardi wrote up a new feature page identifying the Jim Shampine cars in sequence from 1962 to 1982. Very nice. Jim Shampine

If you catch it coming around this summer, you may want to go see the Michiana Vintage Racers. They are a growing group of local guys with vintage cars they show and drive around at local circle tracks. More on this later.
Paul Lynn is looking for help identifying a super modified he bought back in February. There is a new feature page added, so take a look and see if you might know this car.
Robby Hamke writes in "I was wanting to know, do you have any information on the car thats on your web page that Billy Murphy bought from my grandfather Bob Hamke? It is on your photo archives vol,15. That car was built by my grandfather, and I would like to know if there is a way I can find out if the car still exsist, for I would love to purchase it." If you have any info, please let him know at shirl4455@aol.com.
Jim Liccardi recently worked on a bunch of descriptions, so thanks to him. I especially like this (1969?) driver's meeting at Oswego in Volume 2 of the Photo Archive. Please help us identify the rest of these guys. Maybe I should rescan the slide at the highest resolution and post a high res bitmap?
I updated and added some new links. Updated the Tammy Ten restoration feature page with some stuff Jim Hutton sent in.
Got a Billy Yuma feature page up, but still looking for more.
Terry Woodin wrote in about a restoration he's doing:
"My name is Terry Woodin, and my pride and passion right now is the late 70's modified that was driven by Don Taylor (pink panther # 25 formally owned by Charlie Heath of Hillsdale) at the Butler Motorspeedway. To his best recolection, Charlie say's he bought the car at auction around 1979 or '80. He thinks the car was originally built by Howard Conkey at the Showcar Speedshop in Waterloo, New York. This I havent been able to prove because of Howard's passing a few yrs ago. If anyone who visits your web could give me any insight on the Old Pink Panther I would appreciate it. All I know is that it left New York, only raced once, then went to auction. It is a full 2x4 framed chassis, coilovers all the way around, tubular upper A,s and struts on the front lowers, has ford 9 inch with GN hubs, and GN hubs on the front. The car originally had a Mustang ll Body, was painted white with a Petty Blue interior. Car was Originally # 6. The only thing unusual about the car, is that the nose piece has a Lincoln Continental hood ornament that is original when the car was built. Terry Woodin"
Got this note from Ben Williams. Please respond if you can help him out:
"Hi, I am wondering if you have a photo in your vast collection of the supermodified that Richie Evans drove once upon a time? I build old model stock cars of his and I would love to build his supermodified. The only problem I have is my memory. I was a little kid when I saw at his garage in the '70's. I think the car was white with a black frame and I don't remember the color of the number. Any help or photos that you have would be of tremendous help to me. You can e-mail me at work if you have anything, ben@ccny.com"
Got this note from Lee Booze. Please respond if you can help him out:
"I am looking for as much info on the Harold Thomas/ John Logan sprinter as possible. We are restoring it to its former glory. Importantly, we have to get the massive wings shaped correctly.
Lee Booze"
